Dear Board Members – Waterloo Region District School Board;

Re: Committee of the Whole (COW) January 17th

I am writing both to celebrate the courage of some board members and to express my deep disgust and sadness at the behavior and abuses of others on January 17th, 2022 and following, but I will speak to the issue at hand first:

I am the father of four children.  I have a trans-identified child who has begun a medicalization process to “change genders.”  This was supported philosophically by some teachers in her school explicitly – and it is supported implicitly and widely by the culture of today’s education system.  Our school systems across Canada now supports and celebrates the changes of names and pronouns in a process known as social transition. 

I suggest and observe from testimonies of parents all across Canada that these practices are widely adopted by individual teachers, by school administrators and by school boards.   

I observe that in human history we have always had biological females, ie girls and women, who have presented masculine traits to the world.  We have had biological boys and men who have presented effeminate and traditionally feminine traits to the world and the diversity of our humanity should absolutely be celebrated.   

I would like to point out the obvious however, that in human history, not in written records, or archaeological evidence, nor in the diversity of spiritual practice and tradition in the world, have we EVER believed that we could, or should, give children puberty-blockers, cross-sex hormones, radical mastectomies, or orchiectomies (the removal of male testes) to children in efforts to change them from one sex to another.  Nor has any culture ever militantly defended such a position.

Puberty Blockers and Cross-Sex hormones are experimental treatments. 

Cross-Sex surgical medicalizations of children are experimental medical treatments.

My daughter, SHE, is taking testosterone – which the institutions of education, by providing her books like the one you have refused to talk about, and by affirming social transition, and by keeping that social transition secret from me, her parent, have implicitly approved these medical interventions as valid, and even normalized this set of pathways for socialization and development. 

Testosterone has destroyed my little girl’s beautiful singing voice.  She will lose her hair to male-pattern baldness.  It will increase her risk of heart attack to 40% above the risk to men, who are already at higher risk of cardio-vascular disease than women.  It will substantially increase her risk of Type II diabetes.  It will result in painful uterine and vaginal atrophy and after just a few short years, it will lead to a partial or complete hysterectomy.  At this point, I live in fear that I will learn she has had “top surgery” and sacrifice her ability to nurture a child to the false gods of gender ideology. 

My little girl, if she doesn’t wake up with trans regret, like so many of the growing thousands of detransitioners around the world, will be a medical patient for life, which the testosterone and its devastating impacts on her body, will likely shorten considerably.  

We are normalizing this as a society, and it is a sickness that it has infiltrated our institutions. 

It has clearly infected YOUR institution. 

The first oath of medicine is to “First do no harm.”  Over the last 400 years, and especially over the last 100 years we have rationalized our medical system to purify it from superstition and from quackery, and from unethical and dangerous medical practices.  This has given us the ability to treat cancers, develop life-saving medicines, solve infant and maternal mortality and to extend human life such that we are living on average almost twice as long as we did before this technological development. 

We practice medicine based on proven science, centered on the concept of “First do no harm.”  We don’t deploy interventions without studies.  If we do so, those interventions are by definition medical experiments. 

The idea of medical experiments on children, their endocrine systems and their reproductive systems, is something we associate with Nazi Germany – yet there is no other way to describe what we are normalizing as a society. 

There are no studies, ZERO, that support cross-sex medicalization as a healthy pathway for humans.  The history of gender medicine, barely half-century old is a Frankenstein horror story of mutilation and abuse, increased mortality, suicide, and human destruction worthy of Mary Shelley.  The trans narrative is made up of sewn-together bits of quasi-religious assertions animated by false claims about being born in the wrong body. It can only be defended by censorship because it simply collapses under scrutiny when it is viewed as the monster it is.    

Yet we have you, entrusted with the education and healthy development of children, and your cowardice and atrocious censorship of the valid concerns of a teacher, and then, the censorship of people who would repost the venal machinations of your board leadership on YouTube. Allegations made to cover up your corruption and to stop a good-faith discussion about this by claiming copyright infringement only demonstrate knowledge of such corruption and clearly signal intent to stop this from being discussed.

Your meetings are a matter of public record, and as Canadians we all have the right to fair comment about public issues.  In addition, our society, which is founded on free expression, teeters when government institutions silence speech and criticism of public officials and institutions.  In the US, this is the foundation of the First Amendment, to protect the citizenry from censorship BY CORRUPTED GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS.            

I will conclude with this:

Over the course of more than a century, the Canadian government, Church officials and educational officials enforced a system based on Eurocentric, and ethnocentric values, that removed children from their communities and cut them off from their parents in the name of what those institutions believed was “Best” for the indigenous children of Canada, “To civilize them as speedily as they are fit and able.”  The government inserted itself between parents and children with policies shaped by settlers and colonial forces and the interests of elites.    We all view this now as an atrocity of colonization.

Today, schools and government institutions are once again assuming a stance of moral superiority against parents and concerned citizens.  Laws protect the belief that giving children puberty blockers, which, per-child, cost between $20,000 and $40,000 per year USD, as a human right.  Government institutions everywhere, just like yours, are complicit in funneling vulnerable children into a meatgrinder of medical experimentation where healthy reproductive organs and tissues are being routinely removed to ostensibly attain intangible psychic benefits; where corrupt pharma companies are establishing life-long customers and vile plastic surgeons are seeing a “diversified service offering” in high-margin surgeries – profiteering from the psychic distress ENABLED by our school systems.      

This is a colonization of the bodies of vulnerable children.  Those children are disproportionately indigenous, autistic, vulnerable, and suffering from numerous comorbid mental health conditions. 

One MUST ask themselves, who are the people writing these books?  Who are the advocates behind this abominable belief that medicalizing children is a human right but that to question materials that support proliferation of this insane belief system, via books and lesson-plans and anti-bullying curriculum in tax-payer funded institutions, is somehow a violation of our social norms and laws?  Who is the law protecting here?  It is not children.    

God YES, let us love and support our children.  If we have tomboy girls and effeminate young men, let this be normal and included and celebrated.   

To the courageous Mike Ramsay and all the Trustees who voted against the motion of the chair, please continue to push back against totalitarian practices like you have. 

To the Chair, Scott Piatkowski, I hope that you are simply well-intentioned – but I would advise you to consider that under German law, what we now call crimes against humanity, vile medical experiments, were all legal.  It was people just like you, following or claiming, “those are the rules,” and who were just obeying the laws, who were “just following orders,” who failed to summon the courage necessary to ask any questions beyond their own bureaucratic desks and the four walls of their comfy offices that made the atrocities of the Nazis possible.
