“The most significant event in human history”
That's what we called it. Or rather that's what our cult leader, Guru Maharaj Ji (now d/b/a under his family name, Prem Rawat) called the festival we held at the Astrodome in 1973. I was a teenager living in the Vancouver ashram and I can't tell you the level of excitement and anticipation that roiled our sleepless hearts as we flew to Houston to witness Maharaj Ji (later changed to Maharaji) finally show the world who he was.
Oh right, so many laughed at him, laughed at us. Come on, the idea that God could incarnate in the form of a slightly pudgy Indian boy, and not just that but come this time with more powers than ever before (I think the count was up to about 64, 64 celestial powers Maharaji took human form with) was a bit rich. I mean wasn't this the kid who rode around in a fleet of Rolls Royces and had a penchant for ice cream? The living Perfect Master? The Lord of the Universe? Have you lost your mind?
To which we might reply in two different ways. Yes, we were for real. He was legit, the real thing and he had given us a set of four meditation techniques to experience God directly. He called it Knowledge, we got it, we experienced and it was real alright. The proof's in the pudding and the pudding's inside.
And yes, in another way, one we relished, we HAD lost our minds! That was the whole point. You meditate, you quell your thoughts, transcend your personal identity and merge, by his Grace, with the real eternal one.
We experienced it and that was our proof. We knew who he was but now he was going to do something very, very special and show the whole world that he was divinity on earth. We hydroplaned on a level of hype that's almost unimaginable. It was November but many of us didn't bother taking winter coats because we thought we might never come back. Maharaj Ji's older brother, also divine of course, Bal Bhagwan Ji, told us that aliens would be joining us in Houston. Oh my god, this was happening and finally, finally, the world would see that He had come.
Well .... you knoooooowwwww ... it didn't quite pan out that way. No aliens, not that many people, no miracles. One of Maharaj Ji's other two divine older brothers led a slightly anachronistic big band through a few sets of square devotional music. Rennie Davis, the former student radical and leader of the Students from a Democratic Society, the SDS, spoke as did a number of prominent cult members.
Maharaj Ji gave several speeches in his squeaky God boy voice that even for him were a bit meandering and unfocussed. We learned later that he was drunk half the time and already fooling around with the older striking stewardess follower who hooked up with him when she had the divine grace to serve him when he flew on one of her flights. He was 16, she was 24. When he remembers Millenium if he remembers it all now I'm sure that's the best part.
The media was there appropriately double-guessing itself. Hey, what if all these crazy cult members were on to something? What if this was the moment we never knew we'd all been waiting for? What if this kid's going to stun the planet and show us that God is real, he's him in fact and it's time to finally and immediately enjoy heaven on earth?
Yes, even they couldn't help but wonder a bit.
Well I'll spare you the suspense if you didn't get it already. Nothing happened. We went home stunned alright but more like we'd been hit with a ton of doubts we'd suppressed for months, in some cases years. The cult continued to limp along but the moment had come and gone. This was NOT the most significant event in human history.
But last night? Well you know I think it was.
No, not because Trump is anything but just the same old guy we always knew him to be. He don't talk fancy. He ain't no Perfect Master, in fact he's far from perfect to say the LEAST.
But Trump's victory last night broke the leftist, woke juggernaut that was poised to deliver a certain unavoidable death blow to America's republican democracy and all the freedoms it represents and leads the world in. There are so many, many ways that this breaks the mold. They tried to destroy him again and again but somehow, well, as we know, he turned his head just a little and here we are.
I'm so happy now. Tired -- didn't sleep last night -- but happy. Today my client testifies and tonight a celebratory dinner.
And yeah, for what it staved off if nothing else, this was most definitely the most significant event in human history.
Have a nice day, eh?

I don't know who 'Jim Heller' is but I like him! Great article.
It sure is one of the most significant. The woke left with their censorings and cancellings are dangerous, and need to be defeated.
