Before I get into the details concerning the “message of peace” foreshadowed in today’s title, allow me first to offer a word explaining the recent slow-down in Woke Watch Canada publishing. I assure readers this is a temporary condition, before too long I will have several insightful essays (written by others and myself) posted here every week (similar in frequency to most of 2023).
It was a combination of getting sick (maybe Covid), then getting sick again (less serious the second time but enough to temporarily put me out of commission), the holidays, and the deeply engaging research I have been doing on Israel that has caused the slowdown. For new Woke Watch Canada readers it’s worth mentioning that I’m publishing an Israel essay series on my personal Substack, The Turn. The first is an 11,000 word deep dive that divides roughly into three sections. The first provides general context and historical background of roughly 200 years of Middle East politics, the second goes into issues concerning the reliability of Middle East historiography (with a section on the postmodern Israeli revisionist historians), and the third covers anti-Israel bias in the media. The essay is called The Case for Israel. Another installment in the series is very close to completion. Subscribe to The Turn and I’ll send it directly to your email inbox.
I also must take a moment to thank all of the contributors to Woke Watch Canada in 2023. I have learned a ton from well over a dozen writers who have contributed their insightful works to these pages. And to the readership as well, I feel deeply grateful. The growth in subscribers and the expansion of our reach has been staggering. I receive private messages of support from prominent Canadians across the country. From former politicians, academics, journalists, citizens and public figures, I receive messages of appreciation for daring to broach the subjects I and others routinely broach in these pages, and for holding strong positions in defense of Western values and Canadian history. The appreciation I feel for everyone involved is indescribable and my gratitude is without bounds.
The paid subscriber base makes an important and meaningful impact. Without the generous contributions of paid subscribers, and of those who have donated to the Investigating Wokeism Fund, or have sent e-transfer, checks, and even cash in the mail, the entire adventure would not be possible. The brilliant people who finance this project are the lynch pin of the counter-revolutionary movement (at least this corner of it) - I appreciate them enormously as I remain in a continuous state of shock at their dedication to the efforts being made at Woke Watch Canada.
I feel duty bound and obligated to all of you. I feel responsible for getting things right while simultaneously delivering a quality and type of analysis not so common in these turbulent times. All the more reason it is needed. In the same sense, I feel duty bound and obligated to the counter-cultural movement. Defending the values, history, and cultural heritage of the West through evidence-based, reasoned and philosophically sound writing is the Modus Operandi of Woke Watch Canada, and as long as I have editorial control, it will remain that way.
Our mission is clear. 2024 promises to be another turbulent year. As things become more and more dysfunctional, as radical politics and activism become more and more apparent, there will continue to be an increase in people who “wake up” (red pilled) to the madness of the Social Justice paradigm (a consequence of decades of radical progressivism). Sharing the articles written in these pages and helping proliferate a pro-Western analysis that is critical of progressive social engineering plays a vital role in this process.
So far in Canada, the counter-revolutionary protest movements have all been peaceful. The truckers freedom protest in Ottawa for example, even with a large contingent of “Fuck Trudeau”-types remained peaceful. On the contrary, many of the protest events and actions in-line with the Social Justice revolution, have been either threatening or violent. Most shocking is the large numbers of Islamist immigrants protesting in a threatening and hostile manner in public places across the West. Many people are waking up for the first time to the stark reality that one of the consequences of multiculturalism was the importation of millions of antisemites into Western nations.
None of this is good. Regular readers will know that my analysis includes a scathing critique of multiculturalism and diversity. The placing in adjacency of incommensurate cultures in a post-assimilation Social Justice paradigm actively hostile to the host culture is sheer madness. It is important to shake people out of this haze. Multiculturalism, and its open immigration of increasing numbers, should be opposed using all peaceful means necessary before it is too late.
But it must be peaceful. As James Lindsay explained in a recent New Discourses podcast, the Social Justice revolution is a Communist provocation. According to the doctrine of International Communism, it is our reaction that is being anticipated, and will be used against us. The relentless antiwhiteism brought in by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion types is expected to result in a racist reaction from white people. Instead of falling into that trap, the counter-argument needs to be predicated on the divorcing of culture and race. You can say anything you want about cultures, and as long as you recognize that any race can participate in Western culture and benefit from it, then a charge of racism cannot stick.
It was the great conservative theoretician, Roger Scruton, who I learned this critical piece from. We must de-couple race from culture. They are distinct. Any person born into a given culture can later choose to shed that culture and adopt a better one. That is what we should be promoting unapologetically to immigrants to the West. Should we not ask why immigrants would uproot and relocate to Canada? Is it not obvious that there is something better in Canada than exists in the places they come from? Why should we shy away from this? Why don’t we promote, instead of denigrate, our cultural heritage?
When we act sheepish and apologetic toward our excellence and illustrious history we simply create a pathway for the disingenuous to strike at a weakness we ourselves have created and exposed. This simply cannot stand. The discourse around these matters must be entirely shaken up. That is what Woke Watch Canada will continue to do in 2024…bank on it!
This means the analysis must go to uncomfortable places. Unpopular truths must be brought to the surface, and certain taboos (like the racism taboo where white people aren’t permitted to speak on the subject) must be destroyed. But hate, racism, and violence cannot be an ingredient in this. For now, my goal is simply to influence the conversations and subtly shift the discourse in the right direction. Politics flows downstream from culture. Once enough people in the culture swallow that “red pill” and realize the existential danger that radical progressivism has placed us in, the politicians will respond in kind. But the grumblings of the public must reach a substantial level if we are to expect any credit from Ottawa.
So, I and my esteemed colleagues will continue with our research, with following the latest developments, and with generating our analysis and Western defense. Readers will complete the circle by reading, discussing and sharing the content. The message will proliferate. We will win more and more hearts and minds. Eventually, disconnected elite leaders will have on their hands a force to be reckoned with. We will win, but it won’t be easy.
Lastly, the second part of my message of peace is to all Woke Watch Canada readers, contributors and supporters, and their families. May you all have a peaceful holiday season.
Happy New Year everyone!!
