UVic has to refresh its rainbow crosswalk, last painted in 2015, and is going to be paying a consultancy group $24,000 to help them decide what colours, and in what design, etc. And to get LGBTQ+ students and alumni to weigh in, they're offering them each a $55 Skip-the-Dishes gift card as an incentive to attend a 2-hour virtual meeting. Oh. My. Goodness.
According to the Times-Colonist article, one in five students at UVic identify as "non-heterosexual", yet a meeting to discuss the crosswalk had to be cancelled earlier this week "due to low registration."
One trans student feels that "the right-coloured sidewalk" is not going to make trans people safer on campus, and would rather see mandatory equity, diversity and inclusion classes for first year students instead.
My biggest concern with PP is once elected he will ignore all of the beliefs we hold to vote his Party into power. We will end up with a watered down Trudeau lite.
