Excellent question: “What possessed people to define themselves solely by their unconstrained sexual desires?” And worse, what possessed people to get young students to do the same?

Great article thank you for sharing your experience as a new Canadian. Unlike you I have gone beyond the desire not to offend anyone I was never like that my entire life and like you I came to Canada as an immigrant at age 16 extremely grateful for that opportunity and became a proud Canadian citizen.

Having attained the age of 74 like most people my age we view things a little differently I try to not get too grumpy and maintain patience but it gets harder every day. I must admit I have zero tolerance for stupid self centered idiots having always believed that perverts should be kept either locked up or at least at a distance from decent people as a retired detective my instincts are to protect the innocent young children from these types of groomers at all costs and yet we have MP,s and MPP,s today who obviously support this type of behaviour icluding non other than the prime Minister.

On closing I mention an e mail I received yesterday from a business woman, after her name in brackets was the following (she/her) my reply included after my name (Peter/Mr/Married/Straight/white/anglo saxon) a bit childish I suppose but honestly I just could not let that go.

Have a great day everyone

Your thought provoking question about, what is there to be proud of in an obscene display of garish homosexuality, is compelling. Winston Churchill's famous quote about Russia being, "a riddle wrapped in a conundrum, inside an enigma", seems insightful. It is truly a mystery in many ways possibly tied to an innate need for both attention and acceptance. Perhaps the bigger question is how can such salacious behavior be condoned and promoted by government at the expense of the general population and their families. This is beyond scandalous. As to where are the heroes, I am sure they are there but few are willing to risk public ostracization for a display of virtue. In the mean time it is important that rational citizens keep up the pressure on their elected representatives and reinforce the message eloquently reflected by Andy Kim's famous song, "Rainbow Ride":

Touch my heart but not my pride

Love me right or step aside

I ain't taking no rainbow ride with you

One of my more notable teachers when I was at school had been a colonial policeman in what is now Sri Lanka. Many years after I left the school, I came across a book he had written about his experiences there. One of his stories forever stuck in my mind.

At some point in his career there, he adopted a tiger cub. All went well when it was small.

However, one awful day, the man was reclining on a deck chair on his bungalow verandah with bare feet on the ground. The tiger came up to him & started to lick his feet.

Tiger tongues are rough and the licking started to hurt. He tried to remove his feet, but the tiger gripped his leg & wouldn't stop, particularly as the skin started to bleed.

The pain became unbearable, but he was trapped & there was nothing for it but scream out to his bearer to get his gun & shoot the animal, which he duly did.

His feet still bore the scars to the end of his life......

Exactly how I feel too and I was born here. To my credit I've raised three sons who are those Good Men. I pray for Canada to have a revolution of common sense & decency across all our institutions. A lot of people need to be fired from public service for sure
