Trump’s real target is China. Think of that 300 billion in trade deficit with China as going directly from America to Communist China to build up China’s armed forces. It’s really quite crazy - America is paying for its number 1 enemy’s huge army expansion at the same time as its manufacturing heartland is being hollowed out as factories move to China. The meth addicts left get to buy cheap Chinese stuff at Walmart. Trump has no choice. He has to act
I’m so fed up with TDS. It’s gotten to the point I just tell people, I’m not interested in listening to your Trump hatred. It’s a bloody mental health problem in Canada.
While Adam Smith is known for his work on absolute advantage in The Wealth of Nations, the concept of comparative advantage was later developed by David Ricardo, building upon Smith's ideas.
Here's a breakdown:
Adam Smith and Absolute Advantage:
Smith argued that countries should specialize in producing goods where they have an absolute advantage, meaning they can produce more of a good with the same amount of resources than other countries.
David Ricardo and Comparative Advantage:
Ricardo expanded on Smith's ideas by introducing the concept of comparative advantage, which states that even if one country has an absolute advantage in producing all goods, it can still benefit from trade if it specializes in producing goods where it has a relative advantage (lower opportunity cost) compared to other countries.
Opportunity Cost:
Comparative advantage is based on the idea of opportunity cost, which is the value of the next best alternative that is forgone when a choice is made.
Example:
Imagine Country A can produce both wheat and cloth more efficiently than Country B. However, Country A might still benefit from specializing in cloth production (where its relative efficiency is higher) and trading with Country B, which specializes in wheat (where Country A's relative efficiency is lower).
Benefits of Specialization and Trade:
Both absolute and comparative advantage highlight the benefits of specialization and international trade, leading to increased efficiency and overall economic prosperity.
Smith's Focus:
Smith's focus was on the benefits of specialization and the division of labor within a country, while Ricardo extended this to international trade by introducing the concept of comparative advantage.
Both men left out dirty dealing which China is a master of via paying low wages and huge subsidies thereby subverting free and fair trade.
I am not worried about trade, tariffs, or the economy. I am far more worried about expansionist radical Islam, the People's Republic of China, or getting stabbed in the heart by an upset member of the black community with poor impulse control (like 17-year old Anthony Metcalf, who was killed last week – stabbed by a young black male at a track meet!).
Me neither and that is a horrifying incident, this black youth was very dangerous to do that! I cannot imagine the loss and the family how to deal with this!! absolutely unwarranted!!
Every since the Canadian people have pushed the narrative for Canada first, and buy Canadian, I was appalled and reminded of a time when being Canadian was frowned on. Remember Cancelling Canada day! flags half mast! I have had my Canadian flag on my home for the last 5 years NOT one person has their flag! yet now I see one, a neighbor too the initiated to purchase the pole and place it in front of their home! laughable!
Any Canadian should know that China wants Canada, and China has been hand wrapped our resources in order to make Canadians poor, and I laugh at the amount of Chinese that can't even speak English in Canada, where do they work?? The tariffs are a wake up call and Canada needs to see this push back for Trump, is the agenda 2030.. G7 countries are becoming one world government, the Globalists hate trump, the proof is in the pudding! Its an illusion to take you away from the real issues, Canada becoming Globalist!
Can Canadians really complain when immigrants do not learn English well or do not adopt Canadian customs? Isn't that the multiculturalism that the Trudeau Liberals have been pushing for a decade? And when you have uncontrolled immigration, people of the same origins form enclaves where they can comfortably speak Chinese or advocate for jihad. It's on us. We voted for it, three times! Canadian voters, it appears, are fools.
well, we can't complain, because this has been the gold standard for Canada, we have been silenced. We have no control, with the fact that NO Canadian identity has been that you speak English/French in this country. Signs should be in English/French. American Chinese, that come over from Seattle I have seen really assimilate. As a matter of fact my cousins, were born in Italy, BUT immigrated to USA, and when they go to Italy they tell their grandmother they are AMERICAN!
Its embedded in American culture to become American, as a matter of fact many had to change last names.
Take the south Asians.. with their sukdeep/ramdeep...etc...names you come to Canada at least have the decency to assimilate and give proper names! its beyond frustrating. Why do you have the mentality like other Canadians ? we can't complain, we sure can! Its our government that stamps out our voices and they don't have to deal with these immigrants , that have names we can't pronounce, we can't go to a neighborhood as the signs are not in English. The Chinese are the worst offenders they have no respect for Canadian culture! The Muslims, do not have ' Mr / Mrs/ they use their first name and last name interchangeably ! Mohammad Mohammad..the wifes do not take on their last name, its beyond confusing! We can't complain, if we do its racist!! So complain I say! and be proud to complain, these names should change!!
When so many are running around with their hair on fire, James Pew gives us a (rare) reasonable, common sense, and sound discussion of tariffs. All of his arguments are correct: Markets go up and down, always. Imbalanced trade is a serious problem. It is sensible to be patient and wait to see what happens. Even this is probably correct: There will be "criticism from elites who own lots of stocks,..." In a trivial sense (academic), I might be classified as a member of the elite, and I do own a lot of stocks, many American, in my pension account. But anyone in the market should know that the bull market does not last forever, that as "correction" will inevitably come, and that a 5% or 10% loss is not 'pension funds are disappearing,' as some in the Obama media would have it. Furthermore, we do not know how this is going to turn out. So far, Trump has been right about everything.
I read an article yesterday that said it's all really about China. China is really Trump's target. The rest is practice and performance. Now would for sure be a good time to be buying real estate in the US though, if one were able to. If I didn't have little grandsons I would be relocating to a nice house in the southern US that I could never afford here.
Canada has always been a fairly protectionist country. All of this pearl clutching and "elbows up" bullshit is ridiculous. Where were all you Canadians when our government couldn't even be bothered to celebrate Canada's sesquicentennial? Too busy being "allies" for activist native groups? Pah. A pox on you all. If Canada's economy was in any way working as it should these minor US tariffs would be meaningless. Instead, vote getting Canadian politicians and governments implement retaliatory tariffs. You morons. Those are the ones Canadians pay. I'm starting to think the average Canadian IQ is lower than I thought it was by a substantial margin.

I wish I would have said that in my essay!
I stay away from Walmart!

Great work James, I shared it with all of my social media contacts. Keep up the awesome work !
Thank you Scott. Very much appreciated!!

I am the most worried about Carney.....
very worried. "never ask a central banker for political advice." he must have forgotten he was filmed saying that.
