The public school system needs to be dismantled. The people running it are compromised so badly they don't even hear the message behind the March. Fools in power

Wow !!! This is really beyond belief. What planet are these people from. This is what happens when the government sits on the fence and lets the inmates run the asylum.

The Charter allows us our own beliefs and freedom to express those beliefs but does not allow us to do so if it offends another’s ‘dignity’! Can you point that last part out anywhere in the Charter?

Correct. That’s not part of the Charter. But if you read the passage carefully, the author says the ‘Charter and the Code’ by which they mean the Human Rights Code. So they are leaning on this in a misleading way to suggests the Charter is also supportive. The evolution of the Human Rights Commissions and Tribunals in Canada is problematic. They are way off course and due for a course correction.

Yeah I read that too. But the clear implication is the Charter doesn’t allow you to offend someone.

There is a whole raft of online hate speech legislation coming along in Canada and various European countries (Ireland’s is a whopper) mostly pushed by NGOs. These legislative acts are extra constitutional and designed to require social media to remove “offensive” posts. It is a roundabout way to enforce their desired interpretation of the Charter ie embed the current state of Human Rights practice in there.

Canada has a “living tree” Constitution (unlike the USA) which will evolve and change its meaning according to circumstances such as public opinion and expectations. So acts such as these are designed to nudge public opinion and normalize the notion that the Charter does not allow you to offend someone. Eventually it becomes the law. This is the left’s strategy with respect to expanding the “Human Rights” agenda.

Excellent question William. As far as I know, the Charter doesn't explicitly say that, but it does include weasel words that permit the criminalization of some speech. Here are relevant passages from this reference:

https://lop.parl.ca/sites/PublicWebsite/default/en_CA/ResearchPublications/201825E

[Quote]

Section 1 of the Charter provides that all rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Charter are subject to “such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.”

Various Canadian laws have accordingly placed restrictions on freedom of expression, whether as part of the law’s intended purpose or as an indirect consequence. Perjury, counselling suicide, and creating child pornography are all forms of expression, but they have been limited through designation in the federal Criminal Code as criminal offences.

Section 318(4) of the Criminal Code defines an “identifiable group” as any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or mental or physical disability.

Under section 319(1), everyone who, by communicating statements in a public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of an indictable offence punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment, or of a summary conviction offence.

[Unquote]

This is likely why the radical gender ideologues are in the habit of labelling any arguments they dislike as "hate speech". They are suggesting that expressing opposition to their views is criminal - so shut up, or else

The Million person March4 the Children tomorrow, in Canada, is being cast as hate speech by the Human Rights Tribunal.

I'm not surprised and if so, the so-called "Human Rights" Tribunal would be guilty of defamation.

Today in the radical left leaning news we no doubt will see much ado about 'hidden agendas' of some nefarious 'anti-woke march' and so on. When in fact parents and those who support common sense and love their children are taking their views and hopes for our country above the din and clamor of those against the normative and decent values of Canadians. Remember those who claim "tolerance" wish to quell the majority.

I'm off to Kingston tomorrow to see a lot of "hate-filled parents" who want to be part of their children's education. Not really looking forward to it because it's a university town. We'll see who the violent ones are. The easiest way to diminish your opponent's message is by lying about his/her intent.

A while back, I came across this Substack newsletter that has some good tips on how to confront gender ideologues (and resist their bullying), in case it's of any help as you head into the fray: https://bestfriendsandworstenemies.substack.com/p/its-not-about-the-science-the-evidence Good luck, and thanks for going.

I believe the majority of PDSB employees to be secretly on the side of parents, as many are parents themselves. We need to stop demonizing parents as their job is to "see around corners" on behalf of their underage children and protect them from being used as pawns in an grab for political power. Most parents, unless they suffer from Munchausin by Proxy Syndrome, would err on the side of caution before putting their child on the path to irreversible changes and sterilization, even if it means being unpopular. That's what parents do - they stop you from committing irreversible harm to yourself until your brain develops and you can fully protect yourself. We are not fooled Rashmi Swarup, we choose truth and "do no harm" over virtue signalling.

I want to add that parents who have been manipulated into transitioning their kids through fear mongering about suicide are still looking out for their kids. Parents are under tremendous pressure to ignore their own common sense unfortunately.

The exceptions in the charter are under the criminal code. If we think someone's words are offensive, we could ask the authorities to step in. After the authorities tell us the words are not illegal, we could appeal to the court to have them added to the list. Leave that to people who want those changes. We who are exercising our right of opinion and expression do not have to clear it with the Court first. Paul
