“In a free and democratic society, no schools should be indoctrinating kids into any kind of ideology.” I’ve made this point countless times, but woke administrators won’t make changes until more parents confront them.

And now this: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/native-womens-association-says-high-school-students-should-be-taught-about-genocide/ar-AA1cL52H . They're hoping their "illustrated guide" could form the basis of school curriculums.

<The 10-page book also dissects misunderstood elements of genocide to explain how it applies in Canada, said lawyer Fannie Lafontaine, who authored the booklet. "Our aim in the booklet, which I hope is going to be taught to every school, is that genocide happened here in Canada in a different manner than, for example, the Holocaust," she said. >

Jim, good comment. Do you get a sense that some critical mass of parents pushing back WOULD actually have an effect? How large would that critical mass have to be?

LGBTQ lifestyles are prohibited in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religions (perhaps some other faiths as well), thus institutions which are operated and funded by these faith-based communities have a legal right to ban these practices on their premises. This in no way denies the LGBTQ community their human rights under the law. But religious freedom is protected in our laws as well.

Right. The Charter guarantees freedom of and freedom from religion. Our own politicians know nothing other than what is immediately in front of them and are quite content in their ignorance.

The only way woke/leftist governments will uphold the law fairly is to have their ass sued big time. We need a multi-faith class action suit. The whole issue of parental rights under the law is another avenue to pursue, via class action suits.

They are trying... reiner fuellmich class action..

To possibly be a bit more precise, the school board's refusal represents a rejection of wacko radicals, including their absurdly corrupted pride flag.

“I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is fucked up.”

"In a free and democratic society, no schools should be indoctrinating kids into any kind of ideology." That statement is itself a kind of ideology. So I guess by its own lights, schools should be free to ignore whatever constraints upon their pedagogical practices such an ideological statement might suggest.

Andrew Sullivan, a gay public intellectual and journalist, is excellent on the issue of the new Pride of which he wants no part., as a caring, thinking human being.

There are definitely members of the gay/lesbian community who want no part of the politics and proselytizing going on. I know several. There is also a very well argued paper entitled "In Praise of Traditional Gender Identity" by gay scholar Jason D. Hill in Front Page Magazine (David Horowitz Freedom Center). It's still online. Among his points: "If civilization were left exclusively in the hands of gay men or trans persons, or non-traditional practitioners, for example, and heterosexuals were eliminated from the earth, it is not only obvious that the species would die off — that is putatively obvious. What is less obvious is this: we would live in a state of moral ferality. This is because the evolutionary basis for morality stems from an ethic of care, from which the procreative impulse, centered on care for the helpless young, stems. An exclusively homosexual culture, therefore, is, generatively speaking, incapable of producing the evolutionary stratagems from which morality is derived."

Here's a good example (The Distance substack itself is produced by the LGB Alliance): https://www.thedistancemag.com/p/corporate-wokeness-or-my-vanishing

It starts out:

"I recently put my employer — REI, the outdoor store — in a tough spot, by responding to its workplace trans rights prosletyzing with a dissent posted on Microsoft Teams, our in-store communication app. It might have caused less of a kerfuffle if I weren’t a liberal lesbian who co-founded local (Gay) Pride, but I am exactly that person."

The belief we can use surgery to change into anything is denial of nature. It is sexist as it presumes a man interested in “feminine” things isn’t really a man. It is homophobic because a man who is attracted to men is assumed to be a woman. But what if what you feel isn’t who you are?

Watched this award-winning Canadian documentary last week: https://gem.cbc.ca/transformer/s01e01 (78 mins). A well-made doc about US powerlifter and bodybuilder Matt Kroczaleski, who transitioned to female in his/her mid 40s (doc was made in 2017).

She was apparently moderately happy (and certainly successful) as a man and father of three, and is reluctant to give up parts of that male identity, but, but … to be “able to be herself” she has to undergo multiple surgeries and wear makeup and a wig for the rest of her life. Except that today, Janae Kroc is both transgender and gender fluid (living life in both genders), so presumably she can shed the cumbersome wig and make-up when it suits.

I was sympathetically inclined toward this man (seems like a nice, self-aware guy), but not toward the narcissism that seems to underlie this need to recreate oneself as a beautiful woman (not JUST as a woman; the whole "tyranny of looks" thing that women have always railed against is now the stock-in-trade of the trans woman).

A 63 year old gay hairdresser with whom I'd become friendly admitted to me that his community is obsessed with looks and looking young. And highly competitive. In order to "keep" his partner the guy felt compelled to take human growth hormones, work out at the gym 5 days a week follow a strict diet and spend a fortune on various health products and clothing. Natural aging is seen as a fate worse than death, he told me. They fear being abandoned by their partners.

Alas yes, Susan. And I wonder how many of the men (and boys, for that matter) who transition truly appreciate the years and years ahead in which they will struggle to "pass". Are you familiar with the book "18 months: a memoir of a marriage lost to gender identity"? Jonathan Kay reviews it here: https://quillette.com/blog/2022/10/16/not-a-woman/

Kay's review should be required reading, if not the book itself (Kay read it, so you don't have to).

"Media reports over the decision by the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board cast it as homo/transphobic and fail to acknowledge that the flag now carries ideological baggage." Seriously? "now"? Reality check: The flag has always carried ideological baggage. It has always been essentially nothing more than an ideological symbol.

"Most people still see the pride flag, in whatever version (there are now many), as a symbol of gay rights- rights which the vast majority of Canadians support and are guaranteed under the Canadian constitution and human rights codes." Right, IOW, most Canadians, who happen to be mostly pretty dumb, now buy into the original ideology promoted by the pride flag.
