One might envision the direction of good and evil or heaven and hell as linear, as these phenomena are inherently opposite. However, the spectrum direction of right and left is more akin to a U shape. If one veers too far to one side, they will find themselves quite close to the other side in terms of the effects of this trajectory on society. Because what the two ends of right and left have in common is “extremism and radicalism”, a trait not shared with "good and evil" or "heaven and hell". Simply put, if one goes too far to one end, they will find themselves in the same place that they wanted to distance themselves from.
Anything that moves in one direction at high speed, without consideration for anything but reaching the hypothetical end goal, is destined to crash and send everyone to their doom. Each of these far ends will take control of people which is the opposite of freedom.
