I messed up on linking Mark's book to where it can be purchased. I have since corrected that and the link in the essay now directs to Mark's website. For convenience, here it is: https://markhecht.ca/where-to-buy/
Power can be intoxicating, corrupting even, which is often followed by a reckless disregard for those people deemed a danger to our own strongly-held beliefs and interests. There was/is the immense influence obtained so relatively quickly through #MeToo and Cancel Culture, mostly via social media, that has ruined the careers and lives of celebrities who dared to publicly counter hardline woke ideology and its resultant government policy.
I’ve long viewed humankind, as individuals and collectively, as not being very good at moderation. Still, while the social/political pendulum can swing to extremes, such great shifts should be expected with historical social injustice (for example, that endured by transgender or ‘non-binary’ people).
A similar pendulum-swing effect might also occur in response to the prolonged immense economic injustices in Western neoliberal democracies, had there not been the enormous obstacle of virtual corpocratic and big power/money interests with which to contend.
The police and military can, and probably would, claim they had to [using political terminology, of course] bust heads to maintain law and order as a priority during major demonstrations against economic injustices. Especially with a complacent, if not compliant, corporate news media, which is virtually all mainstream news media, the absurdly unjust inequities/inequalities can persist.
So much fakery. I had a conversation with an actual University virologist and caused her to glitch out because I ripped apart her fantasy about viruses.
She would not allow herself to believe it was a lie because of the trade-off; she tells herself that the benefits outweigh the damage caused by vaccination. If there is no benefit because viruses are fake, then all she is causing is harm, sickness and death.
This locks her in the lie to self-preserve her career and maintain immunity from culpability.
This is a giant psychological operation with delayed consequences that allow people to believe the lie and profit from it.
I explain the delayed consequence in my podcast episode here:

Interesting, especially the characterizations of women/men dominated spaces.
“In a disturbing trend across the entire West, it appeared that universities were being ideologically undermined.”
