By N. Invictus (an anonymous Canadian teacher)
One of the main observations I made about Canada (and the Western world) upon my arrival in early June of 2000 was its preoccupation with sexual gratification and the promotion of a culture that downplays the importance of commitment and responsibility. This perception arose from the pervasive portrayal of sexual activities, which seemed to be prominently featured in various aspects of society, including the media, the movie industry, teachers' colleges, schools, and even post-secondary institutions (including the recent BDSM clubs).
Sixteen years ago, in his book “The Brain That Changes Itself”, Dr. Norman Doidge drew a comparison between the pornography of the 70s and the time of publication, 2007. To give you a glimpse, according to the information provided in the chapter titled "Acquiring Tastes and Loves," what appeared on mainstream media, television, rock videos, soap operas, advertisements, etc., in 2007 all day long was akin to the tame softcore porn of yesteryear. I will leave the comparison of hardcore porn state to your imagination, but feel free to read his book. Undoubtedly, this dynamic phenomenon has continued to change the acquired taste about sexual pleasure of its audience until today, 2023.
How did something as holy and sacred as the lifetime bond between a man and a woman, which resulted in giving life to children and led to the survival of humankind, become so hedonistic and even worse, be allowed to target school children? I was alarmed and disappointed, to say the least. There was no going back, but not much to look forward to either. I wish the war that Shannon B. Douglas refers to and bravely reports on had started over two decades ago when the school boards were asking students to fill out census forms that listed numerous sexual orientations unbeknownst to me long before this war started. The difference now is that multiple gender options are on that form as well. Kathleen Wynne's sex education made matters much worse; however, no serious and effective resistance was displayed. Doug Ford’s 2018 promise to create a Ministry of Education Parent Bill of Rights to be implemented through the Ontario College of Teachers remained as a headline on the government of Ontario’s Newsroom.
This war is long overdue. The invasion happened when unrestricted sexual gratification took over and became the norm, becoming a sign of progress, a symbol of freedom. When the sacred vow of marriage was casually dismissed in the name of liberty. If there are no boundaries, then anything goes. Over the years, I have sat with my classes through the MADD assemblies intended to educate students about the risks of drinking and driving. However, the presentation included video clips of parties where young people engaged in all sorts of inappropriate interactions and behaviours, with the message being "Just don't drive after all this!" I was deeply troubled by the assumption that all young people participate in such activities. Furthermore, if there were students who were unfamiliar with these behaviours, now they have been educated on what is expected of them.
Attending a high school's semi-formal dance was an eye-opener, an experience I would not want to repeat. I was shocked by what I saw during the few minutes I stopped by to say hello to my students. One student told me that this was not an appropriate place and wanted me to leave! I asked him why he was there, to which he responded that his mother insisted that he attend to enjoy a social gathering, however, at that point, he did not want to disturb his mother by revealing the true nature of what was going on. There were idle volunteer teachers as chaperones present in the crowd who did not seem to be bothered by what was happening. Once again, my thoughts turned toward the parents who had placed their trust in the supervision provided by these teachers.
During numerous staff meetings and Professional Development sessions, I felt that detrimental ideologies were gradually being instilled in teachers, subsequently influencing the students. This experience left me with a sense of isolation, feeling trapped, and deeply concerned about whether immigrating to Canada was the right decision. It made me question whether all the effort was worth it, especially considering the potential for my children to be subjected to a form of indoctrination within the Canadian school system. In the black-and-white indoctrination schools of visibly totalitarian countries, students learn very quickly to distinguish between the curriculum and the ideologies. After all, everything is simply black and white! Unlike my home country, Canadian education’s indoctrination is implemented through pizza parties, bake sales, fun activities, colourful flags, and other enticing elements that children find difficult to resist and parents struggle to fight back against.
Several years ago, in another staff meeting, a couple of English and Media Studies teachers were sharing their "best practices" with us. Their claim was that they use what the students already watch as their teaching aids to keep them engaged. However, their next line served as a warning that what we, as adults, were about to watch was graphic and contained scenes of violent sex. As soon as the video clip started, I left the meeting and was disturbed that such video clips are presented to students in their classrooms with such a lame justification.
More than a decade ago, watching teachers during a staff meeting cheer on and applaud a 15-year-old girl for standing up to announce that she is bisexual made me sick to my stomach, thinking about how her parents would feel about this public performance if they were given the chance to be present. A guest presenter, sent by the School Board, held up a drawing of a person pointing at the head and the genitals. He stated that when he visits elementary schools, he tells the kids that what happens here (pointing to the head) has nothing to do with what happens here (pointing to the genitals). I asked myself, do the parents know about this? Am I the only one bothered by this? Is this what I came here for? The superior education system that is supposedly worth leaving everything behind and starting from zero - no, even below zero- so my children will become well versed about all the different body parts they may use to engage in a sexual interaction with anyone, while I take them to after school class so they could learn Math properly?
I was the outsider, the fringe minority, the old-fashioned, the old-school one that needed to assimilate and I was not fascinated by the colours of their rainbow.
The poisonous seeds that were gradually spread grew to become the weeds that took over the gardens and quite literally, the kindergartens. After over a decade, our Professional Development sessions have become drastically unbearable, while administrators and school staff encourage and promote student presenters who provide inaccurate information and false data on transgender issues. The student presenters are clearly distressed and confused and I have great sympathy for them. They are "training the staff" so to speak about this issue and instructing us to keep secrets from parents, simply put, to deceive parents. I witnessed a male student who claimed to be becoming a woman publicly mocking his/her father, who happened to be a child psychiatrist, and disrespecting the father's desperate attempts to help his/her child in front of a whole staff unbeknown to the parent! The administrators applauded these students for their courage to share their "lived experiences" as if there is ever a dead one. Any teacher who objects will be silenced one way or another. My objections were politely dismissed followed by an explicit friendly warning. However, I am no longer an outsider, and I am not alone. There are more teachers like me, but they all remain silent, knowing they are already defeated even before attempting to fight back.
In the past two decades, I had two students who were in the process of changing their biological sex. In both situations, the schools handled the issue with extreme care and in accordance with the parent's wishes. Even though these incidents occurred a few years apart and in different schools, both students were respected and well-received, at least in my classes and to my knowledge, these students were not celebrated and no one was proud of them, they were simply accepted. Fast Forward, in 2022 I had 4 students who were in the process of changing their biological sex, and a few more in other classes. My heart goes out to these kids and to their parents, my soul hurts. At times, I could not hide my tears while speaking with my female students who were binding their breasts. Any one of them could be my child, any one of them is like my child.
In class, I am not allowed to speak my mind, but I respect my students' right to freedom of speech and thought. The other day, my grade 12 students were telling me that they do not like how one of their teachers is regularly pushing transgender issues in class and dismissing conversations from opposing views. They were clear that they respect everyone but feel the great push to change their beliefs. In addition, these students were expressing their concern for elementary students who are being taught by similar teachers, stating: “The elementary kids are screwed”. It is a messed up world when the wisdom of our teenage students ranks higher than the ones who are governing them and who are supposed to be their mentors! In truth, until this war is won, the parents' choice is between having a silenced, right-minded teacher who is keeping his/her post or one who ensures that his/her signature includes pronouns of all sorts.
Bluebirds no longer fly over the rainbow, and there aren’t any pots of gold at the end of any rainbow either, nor do the colours represent apples, oranges, the sun, trees, the sky and Barney the purple dinosaur. This natural phenomenon that brought awe and was used in songs and lyrics to brighten the lives of adults and children alike has turned into an awful warning sign that signals, “We have conquered this territory and we will dominate your mind and the lives of your children”. A shift towards restrained and committed relationships, and the postponement of immediate gratification whether through adhering to religious beliefs or by practising moral and ethical values, may help win this war and clear the sky again. When there are no boundaries, anything goes, anything!

This is a true event that happened yesterday. My wife and I were attending the 50th birthday party for our daughter, my 22 year old grandson had stopped on his way to visit his mother at the LCBO to purchase some alcohol and was asked if he wished to donate to "Pride" he replied "no why, are they trying to find a cure?" which bought laughs at the store from other customers and also from many others at my daughters house.
I can see some light at the end of THAT rainbow.
My dear Invictus, my deepest commiserations to you after having invested and risked so much in hope of winning something better for your family, only to find yourself and them so cruelly and willfully betrayed by a society now totally at the mercy of its own cultural decadence and corruption.
This did not happen five minutes ago, as you note in the history of your own experience. It has been in assembly since the post WW2 baby boomers grew up in the sixties, when a more disciplined economy and culture of rational needs and wants started to give way to ones of fantasies of desire and immediate satiation at any price, whereby the main product of the system shifted from goods and services (now reduced to icons) to the industrialized production of consciousness itself and its totalitarian colonization and takeover of mass populations.
What we thought at the time to be an increasing 'liberalization' involving the shift from civil rights to human rights, whereby the responsible adult agency connecting rights and liberties was severed. This was actually part of a much larger deregulation and privatization across all platforms of the economic and social system, including the means of social reproduction. The commons that the system was supposed to responsibly steward for future generations became a systematic looting exercise.
Liberty became disinhibited conformity. Rights became indulgences. Reality became the plausibly arguable and deniable. Faith and reason parted company, such that faith became blind and reason, anybody's. The finely nuanced dance between the intuitive grounding and compass of the one and the logical and evidence-based discipline of the other, failed. The commons infrastructure that held up reality was smashed , broken and left helpless prey to vulturing opportunism.
The sum effect was to subvert, erode and blur the boundaries between knowing fantasy and unknowing delusion, as all the reality defining touchstones that would differentiate the blind subjectivity and sense of exceptionalism of adolescence and the sober, mature and disciplined perspectives of adulthood. were systematically discredited and delegitimized....which was then intergenerationally compounded over a 50–70-year period.
Up front, it all looked so 'progressive', 'empathetic', non judgemental and forgiving, as indulgence as a system ideology entrenched itself, stripping out the authority of the adult commons and replacing it by the pathology of pervasive messages from the sponsors, as seen and heard on the omnipresent platforms of ideational production, where the final product was consciousness that could be sold absolutely anything, no matter how pathologically insane it might turn out to be.
The mechanism of this is analogous to the preying strategy of the jewel wasp on a cockroach. Its first stinger thrust is into the thorax of the victim to paralyze it enough so that it can go round the back and put another sting into the part of the victim's brain that controls its fight and flight mechanism. It then blinds it by biting off its front antennae and uses them as straws for a fluid snack. It then leads its unresisting prey to its lair where it lays its eggs on its abdomen, which then eat their way into it. The pupa gourmandize their way forward, keeping the victim alive long enough for it to reach flight readiness and a last feed that finally kills the host.
That is what has happened to us......We are in terrible trouble and I suspect the only mechanism left to deal with it is unavoidably going to involve warfare and a final disaggregation of the system into an unstable and violent post-modern interregnum that will, amongst other things, sort out and rescue the small remains of wheat amongst the overwhelming chaff that was left by the end of modern times.
The major question of such a period is who is going to be able tough it out and see it through to better times? And the answer will be, whoever can muster a good enough suite of survival skills that go back to the basics of what makes a society viable and the people in it sufficiently resourceful and morally intact to sustain it in sometimes extreme adversity.
