Surprise! The TDSB stands its ground against Ultra woke Parents of Black Children
However, the damage cannot be undone
In April of 2022 I attended a Parents of Black Children meeting and presented a detailed account of it in a piece published in these pages called Exploring The Grievance Pathway Of Anti-Racism. The meeting was insane; Parents of Black Children are insane. This is a dangerous group of black supremacists and leftist radicals engaged in so-called anti-racist identity politics. They see “anti-black racism” everywhere. They think white people are inherently racist. They also think the very systems of society are racist in a way that benefits white people (who they view as white supremacists).
Today Igor Stravinksy, the pseudonymous Canadian educator and regular Woke Watch Canada contributor, offers his insight into the racially charged, highly woke activist group, the radical Parents of Black Children.
Surprise! The TDSB stands its ground against Ultra woke Parents of Black Children
By Igor Stravinsky (Teacher; commentator)
According to media reports, an attempt to smear two TDSB school administrators and a teacher by Parents of Black Children has failed as a third party investigation found no wrong-doing.
Parents of Black Children is a notorious ultra-woke organization which believes the well below average academic achievement and much more disruptive and violent behaviour of black kids (as a group- there are of course plenty of great black kids in the system) is proof of systemic racism. The group totally rejects any other explanations and will press ahead with any complaint they receive based on whatever claims a parent might make and then level accusations of racism long before any formal investigation can get to the facts of the matter.
So, this outcome is a big surprise because the accusation of racism against a school teacher or administrator by a parent is usually the kiss of death. The board “investigation” often consists of an interview with the parent during which the complaint is recorded and accepted as factual. The accused is encouraged to admit guilt and accept whatever discipline is handed out, usually some kind of “sensitivity training”. Refusal to admit fault and attend the humiliating and demoralizing training sessions, which typically demand declaring your “white privilege” and accepting that you are a racist and must try to do better, will typically result in severe discipline and referral of the matter to the Ontario College of Teachers which, being woke-captured itself, is all too eager to revoke your teaching license.
Don’t get your hopes up, but it is just possible that the ground is starting to move under the fortress of Critical Theory that has been built around school boards and other institutions. Groups like Parents of Black Children were able to bring down the Peel District School Board in 2020 by disrupting board meetings and triggering a review of the board by a panel of woke investigators. I have written about this in detail before, but the outcome was a foregone conclusion- they basically solicited complaints from black students and parents, while making no attempt to poll a large random sample of these students and parents- the only legitimate way to find out what most of these people were experiencing.
The complaints made by the disgruntled parents, students, and community members were not investigated, but rather taken at face value, much like the allegations of abuse reported by Indigenous people at the infamous Truth and Reconciliation Commission, where they were actually paid to report abuses, and paid more the more disturbing the allegations they made.
The PDSB review predictably concluded that all the tribulations black kids were facing were the result of systemic racism and the Minister of Education dutifully issued a list of directives based on the review which have led to drastic drops in academic achievement and an explosion of school violence. The directives remain in force today.
But the public, as well as politicians, may be starting to see the crises in education in front of them and, we can hope, may be starting to realize that “anti-racism” (racism against white people or others, who due to their success in society, are labelled “white adjacent” such as Asians) has been abysmally ineffective in achieving its aims (improving black achievement) and has served to be divisive and destructive everywhere it has been applied. Everyone is losing. Thus, it seems that in this case the board was compelled to do an actual third party led fact check. It’s too bad no one thought of that back in the post George Floyd frenzy that saw school boards adopt Kendi / Di Angelo style “antiracism”.
In this case, the student was clearly suffering from some kind of learning disability which resulted in incessant bouts of disruptive behaviour. While you feel sorry for the student and the parent, it was abundantly clear that a traditional classroom environment was not working for the student and that the other students’ learning was being disrupted regularly. Parents for Black Children of course cares nothing for those other kids who also have a right to an education free from constant disruption. Their response says it all: “The idea of schools calling families rapidly and constantly is what we call over-surveillance, [an example of systemic racism that] “happens all the time. The constant calls are to wear (the parent) down, for her to get fed up and say, you know what, let’s take him out (of the school).”
What Parents of Black Children and other community groups like it want is to change the statistics which show black kids, as a group, are not doing as well as others in school. And they don’t want to address the root causes, which are cultural, but rather make the clearly debunked claim that it’s all down to racism.
It took fifteen months for this investigation to take place, during which the lives of the teacher and two administrators were turned upside down. This kind of thing is happening all over this province- the number of people being sent home (with full pay) because of frivolous, exaggerated, or flat-out fabricated claims is absolutely out of control. The damage done to dedicated life-long educators and their families are never even considered, and even in cases like this where the accused are fully exonerated, the damage cannot be undone.

For context, it's worth knowing that 94% ($981,348 out of $1,040,163) of Parents of Black Children's most recent operating budget came from the provincial government. So it looks like we're actually paying for the extremist ideological advocacy. See https://apps.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/hacc/srch/pub/dsplyBscSrch.
