The power of ignorance is destroying our heritage

The suffocating insanity is overwhelming. I struggle to keep my head above water, convincing myself to, as the Brits used to say, “keep calm and carry on” in the fight. I know I am on the battlefield, determined to hold my ground and keep my post. I can’t expect this to be pleasant or comfortable- only I wish. Yet, it's no secret that, like many of you, every- single- day I feel crushed by the madness. I desperately cling to hope, and yet I am witnessing our country's accelerating descent into destruction, into doom. 

It is an everyday occurrence, whether at our schools, on our streets, the policies that are announced, enforced and imposed, the relentless crazy news, you name it. No wonder some prefer to remain ignorant. The adage claims “ignorance is bliss”. I used to dismiss it, firmly believing in the adage "knowledge is power," in the truest sense of the word: awareness, understanding, comprehension, consciousness. Now I wonder, perhaps ignorance does offer bliss. 

At times, I find myself at a loss, unsure where to begin, what to tackle, which issue to address, a dilemma I am certain many of us face as we have lives to lead and mouths to feed. Like many of you, I realized that the enemy is within, the barbarians invaded years ago, and we let them take over our institutions! But it doesn't end there. This isn't just about an invasion by enemies; it's also about a deadly contagious disease infiltrating people’s minds, rendering them blind to truth and reason. It transforms them into beings that only resemble human beings, God's creation, yet they may as well be devils for all intents and purposes.

I admit that I started writing this after reading the ridiculous claim of the couple fighting to rid Toronto Home of Heritage Status based on the accusation of the original owner being racist! Once again, I could feel my blood boil! Not only because I view this couple as ungrateful, manipulative and/or ignorant, but more so because, I am deeply concerned that our institutions are even entertaining such a blatantly orchestrated and destructive claim. This is yet another overt attack on our Canadian identity, our history, and the Western civilization.

Oh! you are playing the racist card to your advantage, sorry buddy! you did not do your homework when you bought the place and now you are crying victim, typical and pathetic. As you did not do your homework when you came to Canada or when your parents did! News flash, according to your yardstick- not mine, this country was founded by racist people so why don’t you find a not historically racist place and leave? After all, you are literally questioning the validity of Canada. Or are you intending to not only strip the heritage status of the few architecturally significant buildings Canada has- effectively demolishing any historical artifact that could be and should be symbols of pride and unity- but also apply to denounce this great nation that welcomed you and offered you the lives and opportunities you are benefiting from? How dare you?

In the middle part of the article, you can read “In making their allegations about Caldecott at last week’s board meeting, the couple cited a report by University of Toronto lecturer Michael Akladios, which points that Caldecott (the original owner of the heritage house) was anti-immigration, and in favor of newcomers assimilation into mainstream society.” I cannot speak to Mr. Stapleton Pitt Caldecott's stance on immigration as I lack knowledge of it. However, I find the allegation improbable because I am certain that either a) he was an immigrant himself or b) he was a descendant of immigrants. Furthermore, if Mr. Caldecott did hold an anti-immigrant stance, a) it was his right to have his own opinion, and b) considering what this couple intends to do and all the other madness that is going on, I do not blame him- in fact- hats off to him for having the wisdom to foresee what was coming over 100 years ago! 

Nonetheless, I concur with the late Mr. Caldecott's belief, if the said claim is even accurate, that newcomers need to assimilate into the Western country they have chosen to reside in. Is this not why newcomers came to the Western world in the first place? because they realized the mainstream society they were born into and lived in was not optimal, to put it mildly, otherwise why bother to move? The only other explanations I can think of are either malicious intent and a desire to wreak havoc upon the country that has welcomed them, transforming it into the very hell they fled from—a grim reality we witness unfolding around us. Alternatively, it could stem from a state of oblivion and ignorance due to a lack of knowledge and understanding. So no, ignorance does not bring bliss and knowledge remains a source of power, even if it hurts so badly, boils my blood, and makes me feel suffocation.

As for which of these motivations drives this couple's actions, I do not know.  However, whether consciously or unwittingly influenced by the prevailing narrative of our times, they undermine the intrinsic worth of everything and everyone who has shaped this country into what it once was—a beacon of hope. That hope is fading, slipping away from us and from their own children. By the time their children reach adulthood, the vision of hope will likely remain an unattainable dream.

Although one can discern a semblance of logic and reason in Michael Akladios's responses, the article containing our publicly funded institutions' reactions was just one of the many factors pushing me to the brink of despair amidst the pervasive insanity that seems to lurk in every nook and cranny from dawn till dusk. Yes, I acknowledge, I've voiced this sentiment before; it feels like I'm shouting into the void. That is all I can do anymore, and at times it feels like I cannot even manage that, as people drown silently.

We are not living a dream; this is a nightmare. What does it take for people to wake up?
